…Until 2:00 a.m.

…Until 2:00 a.m.

I woke up thirsty and reached for my phone out of habit.

The house was silent.

Too silent.

You know that kind of silence—the one that doesn’t feel peaceful, just… watchful.

I don’t know why I opened the camera app.

Maybe instinct.

Maybe fear I hadn’t admitted yet.

But the second the live feed loaded—

my heart stopped.

Emily was no longer in the center of the bed.

She was pressed all the way to the edge.

Her body curved tightly, like she was trying to make herself smaller.

Like she was making space.

My throat went dry.

Because the other side of the bed—

wasn’t empty.

The mattress was sinking.

Slowly.

Gradually.

Like something heavy had settled onto it.

But there was nothing there.

Nothing I could see.
